CASINO
Casino is the next town encounted in
the Northern Rivers Region of NSW when heading south (or north)
towards Lismore and the coastal regions. Casino is another town that
exudes confidence and wealth. Casino is also a pretty town that has
all essential services.
The town is named after the Casino Station, owned by
Clarke Irving, which was named after Cassino (near Monte Cassino) in
Italy, with which it has a sister city agreement.

Casino is among Australia's largest beef centres. It
is the regional hub of a very large cattle industry and positions
itself as the "Beef Capital" of Australia, although the city of
Rockhampton more rightfully claims this title. In addition it is the
service centre for a rich agricultural area.
Each year the town celebrates Beef Week. It was
cancelled in 2007 due to the drought. In 2008, Casino hosted Beef Week
from 27 May to the 3 June.
Casino is situated on the main railway and Casino
railway station is the terminus of the daily Country Link Casino XPT
from Sydney and there is a daily service to and from Brisbane via the
Brisbane XPT.
Casino has a number of classic and old NSW pubs.
The Cecil
and Tattersall’s
are worth a really good look over.
The Casino War Memorial is primarily the cenotaph in
the centre of town,
but has other memorial acknowledgements. _small.JPG)
The Casino Museum is near town central but easily
missed.
All congregational churches are represented and some
nice old buildings are in use.
The United is a quite striking building .
The Anglican
is traditional and the Catholic is almost a cathedral.
Be
sure to check inside.
Casino is a great town and an extended visit would be
an easy choice.
