COOLAH
Coolah is the next town encounted when
traveling to (or from) Binnaway to Dunedoo. Coolah is an attractive
town that has a few things going for it. Firstly it is near the
infamous ‘black stump’, has some attractive buildings and a Vietnam
War Hero. Coolah also services a rich rural base.
The Black Stump tourist location at
the north of the town (12k) is totally understated and will be easily
missed. Look out for the black stump.
Because there are no major regional towns in the area,
and no major roads pass through it, the Coolah region is very quiet,
safe and bucolic
The Coolah area was first settled by pastoralists
around 1840.
Coolah Post Office opened on 1 January 1849.
Coolah was served by a branch railway from March 1920 until May 1975
The Cadbury Company introduced a citrus-flavored
energy drink in the US in 2006 named Coolah Energy. The text on the
packaging for this product refers to the Australian Cadbury Schweppes
product Solo as its inspiration, along with the lifestyle of the
inhabitants of the town of Coolah.
The text from the Coolah Energy reads;
‘Coolah is a village in Australia where everyone's got
a little more energy. They paint. Play rugby. Sing. Throw darts.
Dance. And they drink Solo, the beverage with a lemon tang that was
the inspiration for Coolah Energy. We added Australian Boronia,
Taurine and B-Vitamins to make this one bonzer drink. So pop the top
and give it a bash! Welcome to the land of Coolah.’_small.JPG)
The Coolah War Memorial is acknowledged at two major
locations; near the hospital
and the ANZAC Park.
Paul Large
is
noted at both.
The main Congregational churches all represented in
Coolah.
The Anglican
and old Catholic
are nearly 150 years old.
There are two very old pubs. Both NSW classics.
While Coolah is off the main roads there also other
towns in the area, and a visit is recommended.
