TAMWORTH Tamworth is the Capitol of the New England region of NSW and Australia. Tamworth is a very progressive city. That said heritage factors and history are important in Tamworth. Tamworth is also the Country Music Capitol of Australia. This claim is uncontested. Tamworth also services a rich rural community and is a destination for commercial activity from a very wide area. This town was called Tamworth after Tamworth, Staffordshire, represented at the time in parliament by Robert Peel.  The city additionally is known as the "First City of Lights", being the first place in the Australia to utilise electric street lights.1973 The first Australasian Country Music Australia was hosted in Tamworth by radio station 2TM, which has led to the extraordinary success of the Tamworth Country Music Festival that is held every year in Summer, at the end of January, a celebration that runs continuously for 11 days.1988. A country music icon, the 12 m tall Golden Guitar is erected as a symbol of the city's country music roots. The significant number of heritage buildings in Tamworth is quite something. The Catholic Church is a cathedral type structure and a classic church. Be sure to check out the detail on the fence that surrounds the church grounds. There are two Anglican Churches. St Paul’s and in downtown Tamworth there is St Johns. The Presbyterian Church is near the station. The Tamworth War Memorial is acknowledged in various parts of the town. The main cenotaph is in the Centenary Gardens. The Golden Guitar Museum is at the southern entrance to the town. The Motorbike Powerhouse Museum on the eastern exit. There are numerous 100 year and old hotels in Tamworth. Mostly great building propositions. The  Tamworth has been maintained to the mid 1930’s. The Joe Maguire pub on the southern entry to Tamworth is a friendly folksy pub. And with a famous ‘nose casts’   in cement. (Move over Hollywood). There is a real lot to offer in this great city, depending on when the traveller visits allow up to a week
