URUNGA
Urunga is a small unspoiled seaside
town encounted between Coffs Harbour and Nambucca Heads. There are
lots beaut things about Urunga that will give the visitor an
inclination to stay for a day or two.
The place name,
Urunga, is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'long
beach'.

Urunga is famous
for its surf spots (Reefs, Beaches and mouth of rivers). At the 2006
census, Urunga had a population of 1,919. The town is south of Coffs
Harbour and Sawtell and north of Nambucca Heads.

extended in 1991. The full boardwalk was completed in 2007. In
November 2010, a further section of boardwalk was completed. This
extension finishes at the mouth of the river and has taken the length
of the boardwalk to almost 1 kilometre. Hungry Head, 4 km to the south
is the only patrolled beach in Urunga
A railway
station opened on the North Coast line in 1923 and continues to be
served by country passenger trains. The
Urunga Museum gives a great insight into the heritage and history of
the town.
The Urunga War
Memorial is located in the centre of the town.
The Ocean View
Hotel
is an ‘old’ beachside traditional pub. Position will ensure many
years’ service to the community for years to come.
The Catholic and
Anglican Churches
are semi-modern buildings, but both have character.
Urunga is a
quite nice small resort town and there will be an urge to linger and
enjoy what is on offer.
