MARONG
Marong is a very small crossroads near
Bendigo that is the western by-pass route to Melbourne. Too far from
Bendigo to be a suburb of that great city. The by-pass being and
the Graincorp industry
being two of the catalysts for Marong’s current existence.
That said the place is tidy and clearly the community spirit is
active.
The
Post Office opened on 1 January 1860
The town has a football team competing in the local
league, known as the Marong Panthers.
Golfers play at the course of the Marong Golf Club on
Ravenswood Road.
There is also a primary school, Marong Primary School,
and a kindergarten. The Marong Family Hotel is the local pub
and the Marong Swimming pool provides the surrounding districts with
aquatic facilities
There is also a United Church.
The Marong War Memorial
is located in the front of the shire offices.
Unless the timing is right for a refreshment at the
hotel, there is no need to linger.
