Mornington is a bay side town (nearly city) encounted when traveling south from Melbourne to Portsea.  This sea side town on the located 57 km south-east of Melbourne's central business district.

Mornington is known for its "village" atmosphere and its beautiful beaches. Mornington is a popular tourist destination with Melbournians who often make day trips to visit the area's bay beaches and wineries.

The town centre runs into the foreshore area and local beach. The town features numerous heritage buildings. The Anglican being one of the oldest in Victoria. The Catholic, Presbyterian and United Churches are all old buildings.

The Post Office opened on 21 May 1856 as Schnapper Point and was renamed Mornington in 1864. An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck the town on September 2, 1932 associated with the nearby Selwyn fault. No injuries or major damage was reported.

The town centre runs into the foreshore area and local beach, which features a restaurant and park with playground facilities.

Mornington is an attractive destination for shopping and features some excellent restaurants and cafes. All three hotels are over 100 years old. The Royal Hotel is an especially grand pub.

There are a number of memorials and statues. The War Memorial and park is a significant acknowledgment.

The Mornington Museum is the old Post Office which is opposite the old Court House.

Mornington is a really nice vibrant town the visitor will enjoy spending plenty of time dawdling and shopping.
